Jazz Open Modena: successful premiere attracts visitors from across Europe

20/07/2026

Diana Krall and Gregory Porter opened the festival in historic fashion, while Jean-Michel Jarre brought the inaugural edition to a spectacular close with his high-tech electronic and light show on Piazza Roma. The first-ever Jazz Open Modena transformed the city's entire historic center into a remarkable open-air stage.

From July 13 to 18, a total of 25,000 visitors celebrated performances by internationally renowned artists, confirming the global appeal of the festival concept originally developed in Stuttgart. In addition to Jean-Michel Jarre, internationally acclaimed stars including Moby, Joss Stone, and Jamie Cullum made their exclusive Italian appearances at the Jazz Open. Italian singer-songwriter Luca Carboni also celebrated 40 years of his musical career with an emotional journey through songs, stories, and images.

Alongside the main concerts on the festival's central stage, Jazz Open Modena featured club performances and free concerts in the historic Giardino Ducale Estense. "I am very pleased with this first edition of the festival. From the very beginning, we felt incredibly welcome in Modena. My sincere thanks go to our sponsors, as well as to the outstanding support from the City of Modena and the Emilia-Romagna Region," said promoter Jürgen Schlensog.

Modena's Mayor, Massimo Mezzetti, added: "Throughout the week, we could feel the audience's enthusiasm growing steadily. The streets of our city echoed with languages from around the world, and every evening we danced together at the concerts. This first edition was a successful challenge and has laid the foundation for many more years of the festival."

More than 55 percent of festivalgoers traveled from other regions of Italy or from abroad. Initial analyses also indicate an average hotel occupancy rate of more than 90 percent during the festival. Hotels in Modena's historic center were fully booked, with visitors staying an average of 3.2 nights. The next edition of Jazz Open Modena will take place from July 17 to 25 next year.
